the metaphorical battles of teaching.

today, one of the teachers that i work beside and i had a conversation about the metaphorical battles that we face everyday as teachers.

as teachers, we face multiple battles in the course of any given day; childhood hunger, disorienting home lives, attention seeking behaviors, lack of self-esteem, stubbornness, learned helplessness, health issues.

everyday, we have to arm ourselves for battle, so that we can provide our students with the best education that they truly deserve. somedays, the battle is harder then others. somedays, it seems as thought, our students don't get it, because we cannot see progress. somedays, it seems like we are fighting battles that are never ending.

but, we as teachers, need to reminded sometimes of the incredible impact that we make everyday in the lives of our students, whether we know it or not, or are able to see it or not in fighting these metaphorical battles.

being a teacher is truly not for the faint of heart, as i have learned over the last couple weeks.

being a teacher is one of the hardest jobs, because we are impacting the world's future generations everyday and trying to shape them into the most capable, resourceful, and confident humans beings that we can.
