as much as i had wished to be in bed by a decent time last night, jet lag had other plans. for those who don't know, jet lag is the worst. THE WORST. just when i thought i was the jet lag pro, it gave me a run for my money. so long and behold, i wasn't asleep until 02:45 BUT i got myself out of bed BEFORE my alarm rung, which is a first, around 07:30.
i have my fairy godmother to thank for helping me refocus early this morning, and of course, giving me virtual kick in the butt- which was needed. lol.
i ventured to the kitchen, where my uncle and i got to share a morning cup of coffee (and my only cup for the day, since i believe it's one of the culprits of my jetlag episode last night). then i embarked on making breakfast, himbeer-quark mit cornflakes (raspberry quark with cornflakes).
this is quark. it's similar to a greek yogurt consistency, but it's SO MUCH better and more delicious. it's a popular breakfast item in germany and parts of eastern europe. my mom drools over this stuff, and when we have come to visit her sister (the aunt i am staying with), she always has to make a stop at the supermarket on the way to my aunt's house from the airport to get some.
after breakfast, i got ready for the day and then headed out to the Straßenbahn station to make my way to the main city. i spent about an hour in the city- where i bought two new shirts (on sale!) and some postcards. on the way back to the house, i stopped at a small little place to get pommes mit mayo (french fries with mayo), another one of my favorite food items here in germany.
my aunt came home from work and then we headed to limbecker platz, another one of the shopping malls in the main city of essen. i found a couple t-shirts and a new pair of shoes, which I was happy about. my aunt and i returned home and spent most of the late afternoon sitting on the backyard- as it has finally stopped raining. after my uncle came home from work, we sat around the tele and then watched the Wales vs Belgium game.
